Our Story

Hi, I’m Greg — the (sometimes smooth, occasionally wrinkly) brain behind Niskai Aquatics.
Because let’s be honest: some of this has been genius, and some of it has been pure chaos. This isn’t a corporate origin story. It’s just mine.
I want to start by making it clear that Niskai Aquatics is, was, and always will be a team effort. It’s not just some madman behind a keyboard (or fish tank) with a snarky ’tude and a dream.
I’d be nowhere without my team:
- My business partner, Owen — who is honestly to blame for all of this.
- My dear mother — who believes in me even when I don’t.
- My sister Tracey, and her grandfather Bill — who gave me a leg up as a young ’un and got me hooked on aquariums from the start.
- My colleague Hughen — who now runs The Fishroom Aquarium and was a huge help in getting this venture off the ground.
- My employees — who deserve a raise for putting up with my insanity.
- The folks at the Aquarium Society of Victoria — the best bunch of guinea pigs anyone could ask for.
- And last but not least, you — for supporting us in this insane journey. Even taking the time to read this story means more to me than I can put into words.
Anyway… back to the story:
From Kitchens to Aquariums: How Niskai Came to Be
Niskai Aquatics didn’t start in a boardroom, it started in two places you wouldn’t expect to overlap: a fish tank and a kitchen.
I’ve been an aquarist for almost two decades — keeping, breeding, obsessing, and (let’s be honest) occasionally crashing tanks. Along the way, I picked up a different set of tools: five years in professional kitchens, learning how to balance flavors, source ingredients with intent, and obsess over every tiny detail on a plate. Turns out, that mindset works just as well when you’re feeding shrimp as it does when you’re feeding people.
At some point, it clicked: what if fish food wasn’t just flour and flakes? What if we treated it like a recipe instead of a formula? That idea became Niskai Aquatics.
Sustainability, Without the Greenwash
I’m not interested in buzzwords or “eco-friendly” stickers that don’t mean anything. If it doesn’t belong in nature, it doesn’t belong in my foods or supplements. From insect proteins to renewable materials, everything I make is built to keep aquariums healthy and reduce the impact outside the glass box.
bio-Boost: Engineering Nature (The Right Way)
Aquariums crash because we rely too much on chemicals and quick fixes. Bio-Boost flips that script by seeding and feeding biofilm — the living infrastructure of every healthy tank. Instead of synthetic bandaids, I use targeted microbial blends (developed in Australian agriculture labs) to build stability from the ground up. Why leave nature to chance when you can engineer it?
Aqua Nutrition: Food That’s Actually Food
Cheap fillers like flour and gluten? Hard pass. My fish foods are built the same way I built plates in the kitchen: real ingredients, balanced, and purposeful. Black Soldier Fly larvae, spirulina, nettle, bee pollen — all natural, nutrient-rich, and sustainable. The result is simple: food your fish will thrive on, not just survive.
Affordable Luxury
We call it “affordable luxury” — products that perform at the highest standard without carrying a ridiculous price tag. Because caring for your aquarium shouldn’t feel like a compromise between quality and your wallet.
Where We’re Going
Niskai Aquatics isn’t just a product line — it’s a push to change how we think about aquarium care. Healthier tanks, healthier ecosystems, less nonsense. That’s the story so far. The rest? I hope you'll write it with me, one jar at a time.
